Hello everyone,

On this auspicious day of Choekhor Duchen The Chhimed Rigdzin Society is happy to announce the opening of its Youtube channel.

This channel is dedicated to the upload of content in relation with the Khordong Byangter lineage in particular and the Buddha Dharma at large.

We are happy to share with you the first uploaded video:

“Journey to the source of the Khordong Byangter Lineage” from India to Kham. This video was shot in 2010 while the Khordong Monastery was in the last phase of its reconstruction.

As the title says this film will take you from the Khordong Byangter Monastery established in India by H.H Chhimed Rigdzin Rinpoche to the source of the Khordong lineage. Places of Chhimed Rigdzin Rinpoche’s childhood but also places visited by Padmasambhava and places from where Terchen Tulku Nuden Dorje Drophan Lingpa revealed his terma teachings.

May this film revives your connection with your teacher and the lineage of the teachings he taught. May this film connects you with the holy places he came from. May this film touch your hearts and strengthen your wish to meet Rinpoche’s Yangsi as soon as life gives you to.

Hello everyone,

Many of you were expecting Tulku Ugen’s visit to Europe this year.

We had confirm his tour in our previous messages but it has taken a different turn of event. While tickets were bought, respective visas were obtained, travel insurance purchased Tulky Ugen started to suffer from acute pain beginning of June. Checking with doctors it was from Gall Stones in the bladder. It required a minor surgical intervention to remove the stones.

The operation was carried out straight away on June 7th. It all went well and Tulku Ugen was discharged on Monday 9th of June.He recovered swiftly and had to wait till June 12th for a final medical check. Doctors had confirmed his ability to travel and perform his daily duties as per normal.

Supposed to fly on June 14th for Europe, he had been asked to decide if under such conditions he was able to come to Europe and travel to meet you all without any risk to become a burden for the organizers and those of you receiving him, in case of relapse.

Since he was asked to decide and despite all the medical re-assurances and his dear wish to go, he thought it wise to cancel his tour for this year and apologizes for all the inconveniences caused to the organizers and those of you dearly waiting to see him.

Be assured that his health is well and that he is in full capacity to address his daily activities at the gompa.

Hello everyone.

We have been silent on the blog for a while, but it does not mean nothing happened at Gompa.

First of all Tulku Ugen is getting ready to meet you all soon in Europe. Visa, tickets etc. are all clear. We will come back to each week-end respective programs soon.

Otherwise in Gompa but in disorder here are the latest news.

First of all,  the school which was under construction for the last 12 months has been inaugurated and classes have started. You can see here on the pictures that it brings life in the neighbourhood as it is just adjacent to some parts of the Gompa land.

neighbour-school-2.JPG

Close to the guesthouse but away enough from the Gompa and the monk’s quarters.

neighbour-school-1.JPG

On the agriculture side, last year rice harvest fed everybody for 11 months, Corn fields fed the cows for quite some time as well and the garden is still on supplying fresh vegetables throughout the year.

The Deers and Dharma wheel on top of the roof had suffered from the weather. They were gold platted originally but most of the gold had gone. So for the time being and to keep them in good conditions they have been gold painted.

On May 13th, Gompa celebrated Vesak day and a lot of people came from around the region, to attend pujah, offer lamps and enjoy the place. A big tsok followed by a nice lunch was offered on the occasion.

To celebrate Saga Dawa, the next important Dharma event of the year, Tulku Ugen and the monks will be releasing fishes on that day. If any of you wish to participate please contact us at  : thechhimedrigdzinsociety@yahoo.com.

Earlier this year an extension of the kitchen was built to protect the generator from the rain and keep it under lock and key. He now sleeps safely and peacefully.

Generator-protected.JPG

Before the start of the rainy season Tulku Ugen and Shashi managed to realize one of the long discussed project to embellish the gompa and complete it. The laying of checked tiles around the Gompa khora. Last year it was the surrounding and protecting wall with net which could be done. So now with the tiles on the Khora the whole gompa will be completed. There was no allotted budget for this. So if any of you want to participate it will be greatly appreciated and useful. Please let Tulku Ugen know when you meet him or send us a mail.

Kora-tiles-1.JPG

We also have the cracks in the Stupa which are opening again on the steps. So instead of fixing this every 3 years, a quotation is being prepared to solve this issue once and for all. At the same time a quotation is being prepared to repaint the exterior of the Gompa. It has not been done for many years and it is now greatly needed for the protection of the walls.

And last but not least on the list. Few years back it had been advice to build a small shrine for the local deities in order to tame things around the gompa. The place where the Shrine would be built had been blessed by Tulku Chhimed Gyaltsen  when he visited the Gompa. The shrine is now completed and alive and receive regular offerings on pujah days.

We wish you all a wonderful summer. Filled of beautiful retreats and laughters.

It has been a week already that the 23rd Butterlamp retreat started in Khordong Byangter Monastery. Here are just a few pictures to share the lights with all of you.

P1105041.JPG

On January 10th, Padmasambhava day and auspicious celebration of his birth the retreat had nicely started thanks to the unconditional support of many of you who responded swiftly at our last call. To mark the start of the retreat and show gratitude, the names of the sponsors were read aloud by Tulku Ugen in the pujah hall of the gompa before the start of the Big Rigdzin.

P1105027.JPG

In the mean time we could also gather some sponsorship for the monks. This will be of great help to look after them. At the moment the monastery houses 14 young monks and a Lopon ; 5 of the monks are fully sponsored for this year, another 9 and the Lopon would need your support.

We want to thank particularly the association Khordong from France who accepted to gather the donations from the francophone side, same goes to the association Khordong Germany who accepted to gather the donations from Germany and surrounding countries. They in turn will make sure the funds arrive to the gompa safely.

May the lights offered here be with you all and the blessing of the retreat be shared with each and everyone of you.

As you know now, the Butterlamp retreat will be taking place from January 10th to January 27th, 2014 at KBM-Khordong Bjangter Monastery

So far we have received 60% of the necessary funds to sponsor the expenses of the Dalda (butter). If you wish to participate financially to make this 23rd Butterlamp retreat possible, please contact us directly via email at the society’s address.

Regarding the accommodation, as you may already know the gompa has a 10 rooms pilgrim's house to receive you. The allowance of the rooms is made on a first come first served basis and it can be confirmed through email.

Cost of leaving is India is constantly getting higher; hence the cost of the retreat as well as the cost of the guesthouse will have to be revised on last year's charges basis.

Also, as the year is coming to an end, please remember to renew your sponsorship of the young monks and their teacher. This annual sponsorship is very important to allow the Chhimed Rigdzin Society to cover the basic costs of their stay and education at KBM-Khordong Byangter Monastery.

Tomorrow, Monday 28th of October will be held Amala’s forty nine day ceremony at the Khordong Byangter Gompa, Siliguri.

Amala.jpg

As you are probably all aware by now, the wife of our Kyabje C.R.Lama Rinpochi, Khandro Sangye Dolma Lama had passed away on the 10th September at Shiv Mandir residence. I was then in Europe to attend certain events in Poland,  Switzerland and was to visit Umbussi, Estonia. Nevertheless I had to return to India to
attend the last rites of Amala.

Upon hearing the sad news, I immediately contacted Ven. Tulku Thondup Rinpochi in U.S. and took his kind advises, and made a request through him to H.H.Kyabje Dodrubchen Rinpochi to kindly send immediately a team of monks led by an accomplished Tulku. His Holiness had kindly consented the same and early next morning a team of nine monks led by a Tulku was sent to Siliguri.

Tulkus and Monks from Kyabje Dodrupchen Rinpochis gompa organised and led all the religious ceremonies for Amala. Retired Professor.Ven.Sherab Rhaldi who is very well connected with the family and who always considered Amala as his own mother was very kind and came along with them and took part in the entire ceremonies.

For two days pujas ceremonies were held at the residence at Khordong Labtrang, S.N.Bose Road, Shiv Mandir. Amala’s mortal body was then brought to Khordong Byangter Gompa on the 12th of September and was attended by many relatives, friends and neighbours. Monks from Tashiding gompa also came and took active part in the entire process till the funeral.

The following days the pujas were held and rituals were made at the gompa till 15th evening. The monks of our Gompa led by their Lopon Gompo Tshering was very active, took part in the prayers and all the activities.

On the 16th of September Amala’s funeral procession started from inside the gompa at 8 am, we took 3 rounds around the gompa and then brought her body to the Byangchub Chorten of our late Kyabje Rinpochi.

Circumbulation.jpg

Again after  circumambulating the stupa three times, her body was brought to southern end of the stupa, where already a funeral prayer had been prepared with nicely decorated pandal on top of it. Pujas and prayers continued and Amala’s body was put on top and the cremation process started.

Cremation.jpg

It was a very painful and heart breaking moment for all the family members and relatives to offer their
last respect. Soon amidst prayers and offerings fire was lit and slowly the mortal remains of our Amala as she was popularly known came to an end.

Funeral was complete on the 17th of September when Amala’s ashes and remains were taken out from the cemetery and were taken to the river Teesta, for casting away in the water.

Ashes_Amala_-_Copy_3_.jpg

This was at the same place where our Rinpochi's ashes were cast away. All the monks from Chorten Gompa, Gangtok, Ven. Prof. Sherab Rhaldi and family members and relatives were present at the moment.

Few days later, I had the chance to be granted an appointment with His Holiness Kyabje Dodrupchen Rinpochi at Chorten Gompa and took his kind advises on certain issues and matters. On that occasion Rinpochi had kindly advised me to build a Bodhisattva Stupa at the same place where Amala was cremated, in respect of her contribution to our Rinpochi's family and her continued support to our Rinpochi's activities since they met many years and had shown her love and compassion and respect to so many Rinpochis, Tulkus, friends
and disciples of our late Kyabje Terton Tulku Chhimed Rigdzin Rinpochi. She was genuinely the Amala for all the sangha members of our Rinpochi.

All our family members spread to Japan, United Kingdom, Austria and India request very humbly to kindly join in prayers for our Amalas’ departed soul and be together with the family members in the moment of  bereavement. As this will be held at the Khordong Byangter Gompa, those who are around in India are
also humbly invited to be part of the assembled gatherings on that day. The Guest house would be open to all who wish to take part on that day for their stay. My numbers to contact are 0091-9933062222/0091-9832049416.

May we all join our prayers that our Amala may reach the Sukhavati land and keep showering her blessings on all of us. All family members would like to convey their sincere thanks to all of you, who had been so kind to have sent condolence messages and remain beside with them at the painful moment of losing their much
beloved Amala. I regret and ask for apologies to all whom I failed to send my thanks to those condolence messages sent individually. I take this opportunity to thank all of you through this blog.

It is my wish to prepare another message for the blog soon after the end of the 49th day ceremony as a brief account of Amala's illustrous life and her time with our Kyabje Rinpochi with photos and accounts. For all the sangha members and for all wishing to know more about our Amala.

May we all live a peaceful, successful, meaningful life and always remain in good health and continue to strife with the practices given to us by our late Kyabje Terton Tulku Chhimed Rigdzin Rinpochi. I hope very much that I shall also soon be able to officially announce the re-incarnation of our beloved Rinpochi.

This message is to inform you that the rituals at Gompa organised by Tulku Ugen for Amalha went well and without obstacles. Lamas from Tashiding came down to help prepare the ceremony they were then joined by a Tulku from Dodrupchen Rinpoche Gompa together with 7 monks to perform the pujahs. Sherab Raldi was also there, together with Amalha’s children and grandchildren and family as well as people from Kadamtala Gompa and neighbourhood.

DSC00046.jpg

Amalha was brought to Gompa on September 12th, the pujah started on September 16th and her body was cremated behind Rinpoche’s Stupa, with the wish to make a stupa for Amalha on that very place.

Tulku Norbu of Khordong Gompa and Tulku Chhimed Dorje of Suckchung as well as Tulku Chhimed Gyaltshen and Tulku Tserang Nyima expressed their condolences and organised rituals for Amalha in the respective Gompas.

In Darnkov on September 11th, Tulku Migmed could request Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche and Tulku Dragpa to perform rituals for Amalha together.

Now for the next 6 weeks, rituals will be held at Khordong Byangter Gompa every Monday and the 49th day ceremony will be held Monday 28th October.
